So Spain...it's definitely strange being surrounded by another language...I was REALLY glad to have Megan, Dani and Sara to help communicate. I am getting used to it though and it really is true that starting with 'habla ingles?' helps a lot.
Their idea of personal space here is really different. People are comfortable being a lot closer to each other than I'm used to.
The food here is good, with tapas I feel like I'm eating a lot but I think it's because we are eating so many different things. I'm excited to now know what a tapas is, it's basically just the idea of a lot of small plates meant to share that add up to one big meal. Even at Megan's party there was a lot to choose from but everything was in small portions, it's definitely something I want to try more of and to do once we get home - smaller portions with more variety. I think my favorite has been the pork dishes. I like the jamon (which is this bright red smoky, salty, kind of fatty ham that they slice right off of the pig leg) but the pork is really good. The first night I shared a fried pork plate with Dani that was really good and at Megan's party they grilled some pork that we put on bread to make sandwiches, that was good. Even last night I had an open faced sandwich with pork, cheese and a brown gravy that almost tasted like bbq that I liked. In general it's all been really tasty, I'm not such a fan of fish so those dishes weren't my favorite.
