Snails, Creme and Lights

Feeling well rested, feisty and grateful that the rain had passed Megan and I took off to find a tripadvisor recommended restaurant. We started hoping  for Restaurant Mariette only to find them closed :( No worries though because our back up of Chez Pierrot was near by and perfect. The waitress was patient even though it was late and they had all of the 'typical' French delicacies we were hoping to try.

We started with escargot which we both actually enjoyed. We followed Lauren's advise to 'not look at it' and the pesto sauce it was with was so good that it was really quite pleasant.

For our main course we shared a dish of scallops and rice and a second dish of trout and potatoes. Of course they brought out the entire fish, head and all, but I put a lime over it and Megan bravely dismantled it and it was all delicious. Pictures of both are on Flickr here. We also ordered a bottle of wine, we don't even know what it was, some sort of average Chardonnay but it was light and crisp and perfect. For desert we each had a light and creamy Creme Brulee that was divine. We plan to add to the positive reviews on tripadvisor.

After dinner we made our way back to the Eiffel Tower in time to see it get all bling like at midnight and spent the following 45 minutes taking various photos of it all lit up. I personally think that during the day it's nice to see the welding and construction but it's really at it's most impressive at night. It's no secret I love Rome and seeing the Coloseo at night, lit up is one of my favorite sites but I've decided that the Eiffel Tower deserves it's place on the same list of awesome historical sites, though just because of it's youth it must go lower on that list. We got some amazing shots of the tower, the flood lights on the top combined with the low hanging clouds made for great conditions. We kept our eyes open but overall felt safe and enjoyed looking for new angles.

Unfortunately we got back to metro about 6 minutes after the last train but we found a taxi without any excitement and were safely on our way back to our apartment when suddenly our cab was pulled over by the Police. Apparently they said he ran a red light though he kept insisting it was only orange. They took his huge stack of papers, licenses, visas etc and issued him a ticket. It took about 10 minutes and we were just a little too far to walk the rest of the way. In the end it wasn't a big deal though it did get us a little nervous until the argument over the color of the light began, then we knew it was just a typical situation. :)

One more day in Paris before we fly to Barcelona. We've decided to wait and see what the weather holds for us tomorrow. For now we've worn ourselves out and are again full of delicious food.

  1. The tower at night is beautiful! I was jealous, but then saw the snails. Snails are slimy. Then I saw the creme brûlée and was jealous again.
