Parisian Friends

Megan recently went on her first couch surf to Philly and was approach by another surfer, Lauren from Paris, on couchsurfing.org to stay on her couch in Orlando. So naturally when we realized we were going to be in Paris we contacted her. Tonight she invited us into her home for a traditional French meal.
She met us at a central metro stop and we then took a train to her suburban town of Poussy. There she, her boyfriend Nicolai and their adorable pygmy snake share a flat that is about 150 sqft but they make the most of every inch.
They served us fra grout (can't spell) and other delicacies for a starter. Then white bean, duck and sausage casulet (casserole) for the main course. This was followed by a fromage (cheese) course of Brie, Perac which is sheep's milk cheese, and a firmer cheese that started with a C and was named after a town that is 'North of the Southern Central part of France' (and yes, we remember where but not the name of the cheese (: ). Finally there was a dessert of assorted small macarons and eclairs all decadent.
The food was all delicious but it was the company and conversation that really made it a memorable night. It's always fun to meet new people, but especially so when you get to laugh over cultural differences and when every 10 minutes there is a real life game of Taboo as you try to help each other find the right words in another language.
Lauren will be surfing Megan's couch not long after we get back to the states and we're already talking about what sort of American foods we can make for her to return the hospitality :)
She has generously offered to meet is tomorrow to show us more of Paris. Tomorrow is the only day during our stay in Paris where the sun has a chance of making an appearance so hopefully we'll be able to get some good photos.
PS - we can't get in touch with the owners of the apt to get Internet access. So for now we're a bit quieter than we'd like to be...

  1. Nothing like spending time with the locals to really get a feel for the culture. And it sounds like you hit the jackpot with new friends you can really relate to. Guess I can't make French Toast for these new international friends, huh? The the mac and cheese might still work. Wishing you a tomorrow filled with sun-sightings!
