Garden Party

Tonight we had a German BBQ with Maireke's family. We determined that
technically Marieke is my Dad's cousin, there was a large age gap in
siblings two generations ago.

We thought we were going to their home but they live in an apartment.
There is a German tradition to have a plot for a garden and many
people have small cabins. The picture is of everyone from the BBQ on
the porch of their cabin. There was no running water but it was very
cute. The garden was beautiful, they had a coy fish pond and everything.

From left to right: Chris is taking the photo, Monica (Mom), Ike
(Dad), John, Mary, LisaMarie (sister), Sara, Maireke and Mattius
(husband).

The food was really good but it was the conversation that made the
night memorable. There was some translation needed but for the most
part we all did fine. We discussed everything from religion to travel
to politics and a lot of family history.

Dad seemed to really enjoy seeing the family, he had a hard time
saying goodbye.

Sunday is our last day. Mom and Dad are going to a museum and Chris
and I will split off and wander a bit. Then we will pack up and head
for Dublin.
