Uve-Fragloa

They look like grapes, right? Wrong, they are heaven on a vine! They are Uve-Fragola, in other wors, Grape-Strawberries. You know how when you pull a grape off of the bunch there is a little hole left where the vine used to be? Well with Uve-Fragola you use this hole to suck out the center. There are two seeds that you have to spit out and then you are left with this fruit that has the texture of a gummy bear and the taste of a grape and a strawberry. It is sweet and tart at the same time. In short, it's delicious!

We had them when we met Fabio back in August of '07 and I've been dreaming of them ever since. When I was in Rome in June I asked about them but they weren't in season. This time I lucked out! Today's mission was to find the elusive Uve-Fragola. It took four fruit stands but
Fabio would not be discouraged (it reminds me of the time he told the gelato shop owner that he had a pregnant wife in order to get me Cinamon Gelato). On the fifth attempt Fabio found them and bought all they had. As I write this post I am watching the Roman sun set while munching on Uve-Fragola - life is good.

Tomorrow we rise early to catch our flight to Barcelona.

  2. Ah! Me too! But they certainly wouldn't end up in the Sara shrine at my desk. You should try muscadine grapes when you get back. Same idea, delicious, but probably not quite as good.
