Quick update

If you haven't noticed, we've been having a great time. We hooked up with family and I've been playing tour guide repeating things I have read or been told as well as passing along information that my brother gave to me when we were here in June (thanks by the way!). Tonight we had a typical Italian meal at Otello in Spagna, with Fabio. It was great, good food, good conversation, lots of laughs.

So far we have two great stories:

When the family first arrived in town, they had trouble with crowds at the Termini Metro stop and Carmel wound up on the train and the rest of the group couldn't squeeze in. There she was face against the glass with a terrified 'deer in the headlights' look and David just smiled, waved and said Arrivederci! We are told it was hilarious. Luckily a girl two cars down got her hand stuck and they had to re-open the doors so she was set free.

Tonight we were crossing the street Roman style, you just walk and the cars stop, when a car came closer than normal to hitting Carmel. Pete was a gentleman and tapped the car as if to say, watch it!. We kept walking. A few seconds later the driver of that car had chased us down the street cursing Pete out in Italian. It got heated for a moment until he realized we didn't speak Italian, then it was just comical. Pete realized later that he had crossed a cultural boundry and that the man was, as Fabio said, a bit crazy in the head :)

Thanks to those of you have have commented - it's great to hear from others and know that you appreciate us sharing our trip with you.

I uploaded a handful of the photos we've taken with our nice, high quality camera and placed them here. I'll add more as we have time.

Keep in mind that we are checking email daily and we can both receive text messages for free, though it is 50 cents to reply. So keep in touch!

It is 3am here and we have to get up in a few hours to see the Vatican so look for some great pics tomorrow!

  1. Love the stories. Keep them coming. Reminds me of the story of how Grandma got left behind at a train station in Germany!
